sunday...casual sunday...

Every Sunday...my husband takes me to breakfast
before beginning his day on the farm.
Prior to beginning this blog...I made a smaller attempt
to make myself "presentable" to the breakfast crowd...
well...for the most part...
casual for me...still entails big hair...
too-much eyeliner...and full-on jewelry.

But...now that I have you to dress for...
I thought I should take it up a notch...
so I returned to the part of my closet that I had
abandoned since moving out here...skirts!
I want to thank those of you that do check in on me and my blog…
leaving such nice comments…
and to those that inspire me through your own blogs...
you don’t know how much it means to me…
(and to my closet)
THANKS SO MUCH!!

lacey days...

Ever since Sex and The City 2 when Carrie appeared
in a long, full shirt with a short frilly skirt…
I have been in search of the very same.
It didn’t seem like it would take much effort…
I actually came across “onesies” at American Eagle and Kohls.
Long sweaters with chiffon skirts attached…I purchased with delight!
I found that adult “onesies” are not a good thing…
at least not for my figure I guess…
these were made for women with less of a bottom half.
Any movement of the arms and people would be seeing a lot more of me
you know…where the sun doesn’t shine!?
So…back to the stores they went…
yet I continued my search for this Carrie-esque ensemble.
You see…I am a bit O.C.D…”a bit” may not begin to describe…
I do not let go of a want or desire very easily…
like waiting ten minutes for the urge to devour a cupcake goes away...
it...does...not...go...away...
I eat the cupcake and no one gets hurt.
Sorry...I digress...(yet another issue...)
I managed to come up with this combination from Kohls…
an LC by Lauren Conrad sweater and Vera Wang lacey skirt...
which quelled my obsession...at least this one!?

compassion from fashion....

I had the opportunity to attend the
Compassion From Fashion event this weekend.
It is a fabulous event including special sales…food…and a fashion show…
all to benefit a local cancer center…The Gathering Place.
The fashion show included local celebrities…professional models…
and best of all…cancer survivors.
I had a hard time holding back the tears
at the end when they were introduced.
As if battling cancer isn’t challenging enough…
they walked amongst the professionals with confidence and style!
My earlier struggle to find the perfect outfit
for the evening became insignificant…
but this is a fashion blog…so I will share what I decided to wear…
even if I was greatly outshined by the evening's festivities.
(I wanted to share photos from the evening...but not up on all the legalities)
I used to love to combine prints and patterns…
but found it difficult once I was out here…
fleece doesn’t inspire much in the way of creativity...
nor does it offer much in patterns?!
Yet…I decided to take a chance combining not only prints…
but also trends!?
I paired herringbone shorts with diamond patterned tights…
then due to the weather I decided on a boyfriend blazer
with pinstriped rolled-sleeves over a vintage bow blouse.
I feel with the subdued patterns all based in
black and white that they went together nicely…
hope I didn’t miss the mark!?

in the army (pants) now...

I decided to get back into jewelry making…
so, yesterday I took my ideas and headed to
 the nearest craft stores.
Thus, I thought I would finally wear the skinny army pants
hanging in my closet. A fan of the skinny jeans…
not sure why it took me so long to try them?!
Paired them with my new favorite striped shirt (last seen here)
and a gray sweater vest that I purchased to go with them.
{Isabelle...our rescue kitty...decided to share the spotlight}
I didn’t want to appear too “costumey”…but I did throw on
a military-inspired dog tag necklace to complete the look.
Then…I spent this morning working on a necklace
and  forgot I had to work…
good thing I’m sleeping with the boss!?

under construction...

When I decided to start a blog it was with the
intention of posting 3-5 times a week.
Since then…I’ve been under the weather…
and now under construction.
More common for other bloggers…typically…I don’t have
to worry about posing awkwardly in front of strangers…
even though posing for my husband is never easy?!
This past week our farm has been quite the hub for
the local Amish as we begin the outside
remodel of our 1840 log cabin.
Today was the first day that I could get out of my house
through an actual door…not a window…(don’t get me started?!)
but we also had the farm all to ourselves…
and the first thing I wanted to do…
  blog!?

full access...

I went back home to visit my family for my brother’s birthday.
I drove an hour and a half to have dinner at a burger restaurant that
I’m not able to eat at…as I am an herbivore.
I declared my devotion to my brother for making such a sacrifice…
but he was quick to point out that I may not have
only made the journey down the long and windy road just to
celebrate the day of his birth…
As I…during my visits home…tend to stay up all night soaking up
their Unlimited…super-fast…internet access...
catching up on blogs and Youtube makeup videos.
Yes…I decided to start an online blog with limited…
sometimes non-existent…satellite internet access.
Out here…rain…sleet…even snow…
can keep the email from being a go.

animal-print and sequins...for day...oh my...

I’ve wanted to try wearing sequins for day…
for most “fashionistas”…this may not seem like a daunting task…
but then most people obsessed with fashion…such as myself…
do not have Amish for neighbors.
But…today was the day…and apparently…WalMart was the place…??
Inspired by a look in Fossil’s latest lookbook…
(their look actually had a lace tank)…
I rummaged through my husband’s side of the closet…
(ok…his small bar in the closet)…to find a shirt similar
to the one in the photo.
I came across this heathered-oatmeal button-down…
I thought it paired nicely with the sequins
and may help detract some of the sparkle…
apparently not enough…I got stares…glares…and lest I forget…a cat-call.
Ok…I’m sure the animal-print didn’t help!?
All I know is…I rather like the sparkle for day…
And I plan to do it again…
But maybe next time I’ll save it for somewhere else!?

it's a red trench coat kinda day...

Even though I’d been feeling under the weather…
(the weather outside was in agreement with threats of a rain and snow mix)…
I made a commitment to this blog and didn't want
to see yet another day go by.
Never feeling very photogenic…even when I’m happy and healthy…
it had been rather difficult to take a photo worth blogging about.
I did…however…decide to make the trek to town to work on my blog…
(someday I’ll share the angst of internet in the country)…

So…to make the day look less bleak…as well as…myself…
I pulled out the red trench coat…perfect for such a day!

mama never said there'd be days like this...

Since moving out here required that I leave my career behind…
it’s been difficult to find a suitable replacement…
so…I’ve had to resign to working at my husband's business
three days a week to feel that I am earning my “room and board.”
This has not only been a blow to the ol’ego…but has been quite a
culture shock to the closet…equipped with the perfect ensembles for
 lunch with friends…business meetings…or a night on the town…but…
we were not prepared for days like this.
{NY&CO button-down, pleather jacket, and skinny jeans}
Today is one of those days…I struggle to put together
a stylish, yet functional outfit…one that reflects my true aesthetic while
working within the life I actually live.
So...I pulled together a white button-down with distressed skinny jeans…
threw on my sequined cheetah-print flats and a ruffled pleather jacket…
and called it a day!
