dark and stormy...

Dark and stormy...
just isn't describing the weather!?
My husband decided I needed to get out and see a movie…
maybe cheer me up a bit.

I was definitely in a dark mood
and it reflected in my choice of outfit for the evening...
dark clothes...black accessories...
I usually prefer to add bling and sparkle to such dark pieces.

 I guess this could’ve been a bit of a strong, sexy look…
which is why I hesitated on keeping the sweater after I purchased it…
I'm not strong nor sexy?!
But it felt soft, comfy, and somber that night...
I hope to incorporate it into my wardrobe in a lighter, softer way though?!
Thoughts? Suggestions? (the black ribbon belt is attached)
We saw “The Tourist” and my disposition improved…
it was Johnny and Angelina!?!

Side note:
These were taken a week or so ago...hence the lack of snow?!

seasonably casual....

To help put me in the holiday spirit…
I accepted an invitation to attend
the Madigral Feaste at a local university
 with eleven fabulous ladies.
(It was dark & snowy...so we stayed indoors...
Bianca didn't miss the opportunity!)
It was a magnificent event filled with song, improv, and delicious food
put on by the university’s theatre and music departments.
Originally…I had planned a Jester-inspired dress…
as the evening was to be full of medieval-style entertainment...
then I re-read the invite shortly before leaving…
it read “seasonably casual”??
Knowing where I live and what that meant…
I thought “I don’t own a jingle bell sweater?!”
And was at an absolute loss of what
“seasonably casual” would be in my closet??
Plus…I relish any opportunity I receive to put on a dress
 and feel all glamorous!?
I settled on this red and black plaid skirt…seasonably…check!
Added a denim jacket…casual...check!
Christmas bulb-like necklace...totally seasonably...check!
Headed out the door…after kissing the “kids.”
Happy Holidays!!

Also...I was so happy I dug out the floral pins...they prompted a conversation
with a young lady that recently moved out here...she and her
sister enjoy designing stockings, pins, and hairbands.
I hope to feature their fabulous pieces on my blog!

lacey days...

Ever since Sex and The City 2 when Carrie appeared
in a long, full shirt with a short frilly skirt…
I have been in search of the very same.
It didn’t seem like it would take much effort…
I actually came across “onesies” at American Eagle and Kohls.
Long sweaters with chiffon skirts attached…I purchased with delight!
I found that adult “onesies” are not a good thing…
at least not for my figure I guess…
these were made for women with less of a bottom half.
Any movement of the arms and people would be seeing a lot more of me
you know…where the sun doesn’t shine!?
So…back to the stores they went…
yet I continued my search for this Carrie-esque ensemble.
You see…I am a bit O.C.D…”a bit” may not begin to describe…
I do not let go of a want or desire very easily…
like waiting ten minutes for the urge to devour a cupcake goes away...
it...does...not...go...away...
I eat the cupcake and no one gets hurt.
Sorry...I digress...(yet another issue...)
I managed to come up with this combination from Kohls…
an LC by Lauren Conrad sweater and Vera Wang lacey skirt...
which quelled my obsession...at least this one!?

compassion from fashion....

I had the opportunity to attend the
Compassion From Fashion event this weekend.
It is a fabulous event including special sales…food…and a fashion show…
all to benefit a local cancer center…The Gathering Place.
The fashion show included local celebrities…professional models…
and best of all…cancer survivors.
I had a hard time holding back the tears
at the end when they were introduced.
As if battling cancer isn’t challenging enough…
they walked amongst the professionals with confidence and style!
My earlier struggle to find the perfect outfit
for the evening became insignificant…
but this is a fashion blog…so I will share what I decided to wear…
even if I was greatly outshined by the evening's festivities.
(I wanted to share photos from the evening...but not up on all the legalities)
I used to love to combine prints and patterns…
but found it difficult once I was out here…
fleece doesn’t inspire much in the way of creativity...
nor does it offer much in patterns?!
Yet…I decided to take a chance combining not only prints…
but also trends!?
I paired herringbone shorts with diamond patterned tights…
then due to the weather I decided on a boyfriend blazer
with pinstriped rolled-sleeves over a vintage bow blouse.
I feel with the subdued patterns all based in
black and white that they went together nicely…
hope I didn’t miss the mark!?
